I bought this as a bit of an impulse buy, already owing a macbook pro and an iPhone 4S, I was looking for something smaller, more lightweight and portable than my laptop, yet still a decent size to work on. And the iPad mini fits the bill almost perfectly. At 16GB it's more than enough to deal with everything I need it for. It's dead easy to set up, you literally plug in, state your country and apple ID and you're good to go!
You get virtually everything you need built into it, even a few of the macbook novelties like photo booth. While it's a bit awkward initially to type on applications such as pages, it's something you quickly adapt to. In addition to the basic piece of kit, I bought a couple of add ons, including the cover and stylus, which really do add to the experience.
I primarily planned to use mine for work job lists, documents and photo editing. All of which it does beautifully. It's versatile and portable, with a good enough quality of image to make it possible to edit photos on the go with expert precision without the need for a proper computer. I've also found quite quickly, that it's not just intended for work use... Already I've ended up with a multitude of games with striking graphics! It's just so easy to use for anything.
Now that I've had it a couple of months I can comment on a couple of the faults with it. The wifi, as I've read is often the case with the iPad mini, is pretty dire at times. It goes from being fast as lightening, to dropping out almost completely. I'm not saying this is a problem with ALL iPad mini's, but it's an issue I have and have hear others have.
The battery life too is a bit naff to say the least, I admit I do use mine frequently, but my phone has been known to last longer than the iPad! But this isn't too much of an issue.
Overall a really good and useful purchase.
